Part II

DEVELOPING OUR ESP

Having explored the theoretical approach to psychic ability put forth in the readings, we can now turn our attention to more practical aspects of the development and use of these faculties. Our model of the mechanism of psychic ability is rather complex; and yet, having first studied ESP from a theoretical viewpoint makes a consideration of practical steps more meaningful. For each procedure and exercise in this section, we already will have developed a rationale or a way of explaining how and why it works. Too often parapsychologists and mind-control instructors are primarily concerned with a technique rather than with the principles and mechanism that allow the technique to work.

In this section we will explore two categories of practical aids to psychic development. The first consists of attunement procedures to facilitate ESP. These include activities that can be incorporated into a person's daily life style, such as meditation and maintaining a proper diet. If you are serious about developing your psychic ability, it will be helpful for you to adopt as many of these procedures as possible. There is reason to believe that even with only a month of application these techniques can facilitate the enhancement of ESP. A daily check-off list is a good way to keep track of your application of these various activities.

The second group of suggestions to be presented is a set of specific training exercises from the readings that can help an individual discover his psychic potential. In considering these exercises we will be exploring particular avenues through which an accurate psychic impression may reach conscious awareness. Some of these exercises have been described explicitly in the Cayce material; others have been created using as a basis principles explained in the readings. Each of these foundation principles has been stated in the previous section. An example of the latter type of technique is a simple sensory-deprivation exercise that is based upon the readings’ description of the role the sensory system plays in ESP. Whereas the attunement procedures are to be incorporated together into your life style and applied as frequently as possible, the training exercises are designed to be done one at a time. You may work with them in whatever order you wish.

The following quote should perhaps be our starting point in a consideration of developing psychic ability. It simply says that we can expect results, because we all have this latent capability and it can be developed.

When one develops muscle and brawn for the ring, or for any activity of such nature, there are certain rules of living that must be adhered to, or that have been found to be necessary for such an one to adhere to. When a faculty of the body, as a pianist, or coronetist, or an artist, is to be developed, there are certain courses of development, certain training through which the body-physical, the body-mental, shall pass as training self for such an undertaking. When one, then, is to develop a faculty, or a force, that is present -as any of these referred to, lying latent in one form or another in every individual; so, then, do the psychic forces, the psychic faculties, lie dormant or active in every individual, and await only that awakening or arousing, or the developing under those environs that make for the accentuation of same in the individual. As the psychic forces are manifesting, or do manifest through the senses, or those portions of the physical being that are trained for acuteness, as is one that would be trained for art in the applying or the mixing rather of color, as one that gets the color, or the tone from the violin, or the like, these are precepts of faculties of the sensory organism, and are akin to the soul. 5752-1
